I will post this here & also on the summer ball forum, since it involves Texas summer ball.

Anyone have experience or opinions on the Austin Slam baseball program run by Boggs? If not, have you seen Slam teams play? Did they appear well coached?

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Austin Slam Baseball is a very good organization. My guys faced their 14U team a few times, mostly when they came to Houston for tourneys. I thought they were well coached and had some fine talent. Coaches were "hard" on the kids - very high expectations, but they seemed knowledgeable and capable as coaches. Their reputation in the HS aged select is very good....

I like the Slam. as a matter of fact, I'm waiting for Coach Boggs to call me back as he was interested in playing in the Team One Invitational Tournament July 4th weekend.

If anyone else is interested please call me at 352-365-6130

Texan,
My son has played for Austin Slam Baseball for the past 2 seasons. and will play with them for the next two.
Austin Slam baseball is like any other select baseball team, it has it's ups and it's downs.
but one thing that can be said about Mr. Boggs, He knows baseball.
You ask if Slam is well taught? my answer to you is and emphatic yes.
There are several premier baseball clubs in the state of Texas and Austin Slam is one of them.
A lot of people can't take Mr. Boggs frankness about their sons abilities, so they bad month him and the Slam program, when in fact Mr. Boggs and the Slam
program has nothing but the best interest for it's players.
Slam is not for everyone, to be a Slam player and parent you have to be willing to give all. it's demanding, He's demanding.
but look what you can out of it. in the last 15 some odd years all but around 10 to 15 players have gone on to play at the next level, be it collage or pro's.
All of his coaches are top notch, they have either played collage or pro ball or are currently playing collage or pro ball.
Slam uses the Connelly high school field to practice and play on, which is a well maintained.
they travel all over the state of Texas and go to Arizona, Oklahoma, Colorado. the parents help decide where the post season play will be.
Then you have fall ball.
last year my son was lucky enough to get to play pretty much at every major collage in the state of Texas. and a lot of the smaller schools as well.
So if you want my opinion about Slam, I would say it's worth every penny.

Thanks Randall, Florida Guy & RSS79 for taking time to respond. Your responses are impressive.

How bad does the program hit the old pocketbook? {Not that it will change the decision, but it would help me know how fast to duck & how far to run when the wifey sees the checkbook...}
