Are there programs out there where a High School player could live with a host family while playing summer ball?

For example, could a kid from IL play all summer for a program like East Cobb or some other national powerhouse, without the entire family having to move, change jobs, etc?

East Cobb and Midland house them. Also some down in Fl that will bring kids in.

We did that one summer. Had a kid from Eastern North Carolina come up to play with us for a summer. One of the boys on the team hosted him. They were due to be teammates for UNC-W, and the coaches new about our program and recommended the kid down there come up to play with us for one summer. Worked out great for our team...great player. Parents hosting him said he was a dream. Bit of a sticky wicket for me, as the coach, jumping through all the residency hoops to get him eligible to play in our league. But it all worked out.

I'm not aware of any summer teams in MD doing this, but I'll ask around.

My son will be playing for the 16U East Cobb Astros this coming summer. We live in another state and he will be staying with a host home. There are two or three other out of state players on the team and they will be staying with host homes as well. Most of the East Cobb teams are already set for the summer of 2007.

Parents - Be cautious and check out the living arrangements carefully. Most do a good job, but if you are not careful your son might find himself sleeping on the floor with no food to eat. Some programs are long on promise and short on delivery! This happened last year to a "draftable player who has signed with an SEC school" who saw greener pastures in another state. It was a long, trying summer for he and his parents. And the organization boast of being one of the top programs in the country, not a fly by night "Daddy Ball group".

Another concern is proper supervision. A few of the programs who recruit from across the country have had drug issues. When your house a group of kids from across the country in a shack with no supervision you can expect problems.

BUYER BEWARE! Parents, I would check out each program thoroughly before I sent my son somewhere for the summer, lest you find your son playing for someone supported by state gambling revenue, unsupervised, players smokin' weed in the game room, son sleeping on the floor and eating at McDonalds every night.

The 16u Georgia Roadrunners also house players. Last season we had between 5 and 6 players staying with us through the course of the summer.

Son is a soph/2009 MIF/UTIL...looking for a boarding team in Florida. With NJ schools getting done late (June 21st) will this impact his ability to be picked up by a team in the southern states??? Any help is appreciated. This is the first time we've looked into this...

Not sure about other areas, but I know the select teams in Texas start in late May/early June.

Ha!

I'd love to board a few hands young men for the summer.

We could work on those grounders...

and have a little toss...

Say hay, Kid, we could even pitchfork balls.

Have fun!
