My son is an 05 catcher and was accepted to his top choice school for Fall Semester last week. He's pretty psyched.

We've been reading the message board and all the great experiences and recommendations during the recruiting process. He attended a couple of Showcases, sent videos,letters and recommendations to selected colleges and met with several coaches on un-official visits. We pretty much followed the process outlined on this web site to the tee.

His first choice school is interested and the head coach stated they are looking for catchers. So far, looks like a good fit. The only problem potential issue I see is we live in the Northeast and the school is in the Upper Midwest. The question is, how do we keep the interest elevated? My guess is continue contact with the coaches and send additional video from early season games in April.

First, congratulations to your son! Where's he going?

I would say your question is a very interesting one in the thought of keeping the coach apprised after acceptance hadn't occured to me. I would think the coach is probably very busy with the current season and players. I have no clue in what the proper protocol should be after acceptance.

My thinking now that you raised the question is that you go out and try to have a good senior year, get in as best of shape as possible, play ball all summer, and show up loaded for bear in August or the Fall for practice and try and earn playing time for the following Spring.

I would love to hear some other thoughts on the matter.

A few thoughts:

01-- make sure the coach knows he has been accepted

02-- what Division is the school ?--that makes a difference, at least to me, in how you go about things

03-- make sure the coach knows his spring and summer schedule and keep him updated as to progress.

04-- do not get senioritis

01 - which coach are you referring to - hs or college?
02 - what is your advice for D1 and the other levels for that matter
04- what is senoritis?

01--I am talking about the College Coach

02-- All three divisions have different aspects to contend with

03--Senoritis is when the student thinks he has it in the bag but if the GPA drops he can be out in the cold--read the fine print in the acceptance notice !

titandad...by your question it seems like he signed an NLI?? If not, then is it a verbal?? Not sure how to advise without that info.

We sent a letter off this week to the coach letting him know of my son's acceptance and included his 2005 HS schedule and updates on winter training. The school is a small DII program in MN. If I read the NCAA Guidelines correctly, DII schools can wait until August 1 for NLI??? We want to keep the coaches interested and , hopefully something will materialize before the end of the HS season.

Concerning senioritis, his mom is a pretty good cure. The only fluff course is gym every day for the last semester and the teacher will let him work out in the weight room and indoor cage instead of playing dodgeball.

My son did not sign an NLI and no verbal agreements. Only were interested.

Let me rephrase: My son was accepted for admission to the school for Fall 2005 Semester but nothing related to baseball.

Titan, If they're interested, they'll find a way to evaluate him.

I would have your son keep in touch with the coach with e-mails and updates. This would include any showcases that might be going on before the season.

Has your son made the decision this is where he's going to school even if he doesn't get baseball offer? If not, then don't put all your eggs in one basket. Keep talking/applying to other schools. Good luck!
