During my son’s senior year of high school we got to know a couple of the scouts. Although, I am not big on being around a scout when they are discussing what my son can and can’t do, I did learn to appreciate what they do for a living.

They are traveling a great deal during that time of the year and believe me when I say that some of the games they came to see my son play where out in the middle of no man's land. A few of the scouts we met really seen to want to see our son succeed.

Since my son is now under control by another organization we can’t talk to any of the other scouts, but I thought I would just send out a general thank you to any of the scouts who may read this forum for what they do for our sons.

Thank you for taking the time to watch our sons, for offering encouragement and for the hope that you give them that they may someday reach that “dream” of playing major league ball.

No matter whether my son ever plays a day of pro ball or not, he had a great experience his senior year of high school. Thanks for giving him such wonderful memories.

HowUBe - Nice post! Scouts are some of the unsung heroes of baseball. Most of them do their job for no or very little pay because of their love for a very special game.

I know several scouts and everyone of them is a great guy who truly cares about young men and trying to help them any way they can.

There's a story of a scout in the KY forum that ClevelandDad posted. Sad story of Red's Scout who just passed away at a very young age.

lafmom,

The story of the red's scout is sad. I really feel for those young kids, too.
