He told the scouts that he needed Tommy John surgery before the draft and they still drafted him in the 1st round and he recently signed for $1.1 million.

With the success rate of "Tommy John" surgeries these days, it's no longer a death sentence to let someone know that you have to have it. Many times the arm/shoulder comes back stronger than it was before the surgery.

all of these things are true. BUT there are things to prevent this from happening especially at the HS level and College level the parents need to step up and be a little more vocal as well as the coaches beeing a little more informed as well as caring!! I know you are thinking what about his playing time what about the draft !! Well his health is more important, there is not much college, or draft if you are hurt. Not alot of teams going to put money into an injured player.... Just my opinion. There are some things that you can do to prevent these injuries!!I know our team overlooks injured players.

Thanks bbscout for the information and not assuming we did anything incorrectly in training. My son had the best training known at the time when he was learning but the knowledge to prevent his tj surgery wasn't available at the time. However, all is looking better and better every day and Lord willing my son will get it back together soon. The roller coaster ride is still on and for that I thankful.

Our doctor said there was noting that could have been done to prevent it.
