Kind of bummed. Pro Scouts were away awhile. They came back last night. Son was pitching. Unfortunately it rained for the first 6 innings. The first inning it started to drizzle and he did fine 2K's and a pop up. Looked like his slider, curve and fastball were all working pretty good. Then the rain came. He had trouble with hitting his spots going full count on a lot of batters and walking many. His balls were close some even controversial, in other words he still had some control. Still had 8K's and the win, but definitely not his best game. The other pitcher was having the same problem. Question is: Do scouts take the conditions into consideration in their evaluations? Or do they think you shouldn't be affected by things like rain?

If they've been following your son at all, they likely have been watching for awhile under many conditions and circumstances. Weather, attitude in winning and losing, effort against weaker teams or on stronger teams.
They want to know how your son will handle adversity.
You'll be very surprised at how well they know your son.......

I second FO's comment and "observation" ... and hope he is correct. Our son has had several rough outings but I was pleased to hear yesterday that he received 2 more MLB questionaires ... and hopefully is still on some radar screens (not guns, mind you, as he is not a power pitcher !!)

Diamond Mom, They come and they go, they come and they go. They don't come to see if your son wins or loses, actually most of them could care less. If your son handled the situation well last night that is a plus in his favor. They are looking for velocity, mechanics, projection, movement and command of several pitches and how he handles himself when things aren't going well for him or the team (trust me I know that one well). Don't worry, if it is meant to be it will happen.

He is a mid to high 80's, occasionally topping out at 90-91 ... today I heard that he topped out at 89 and cruised at 86-87. He has always been one of those guys who "knows how to pitch" ... as we have been told time and time again. Has had a few rough outings this season, but I have heard that the scouts like the way he battles through them.

'Scuse me for pokin' my nose in, but if there are any new forum members they might not realize this about Highlandermom's son AJ since she is so modestly mentioning a few rough outings: He's a junior at a DI in California, with a W-L record of 8-2 this season ... not too shabby, huh?

Hmom, Many successful big league pitchers have the same velocity numbers. AJ will get his chance. It will be interesting for us and nervewracking for you to wait and see what round he goes in.
We'll be rooting for him of course!
