Ok, here we all are, a week before the draft when ... ta dah! Son got a call from our area's MLB Scouting Bureau scout saying that it has been requested that he complete the "Athletic Success Profile."

One club had him complete their psych eval tool during a home visit, but other than that, none of the other clubs mentioned it.

I can't find this particular evaluation instrument mentioned on the HSBBW message board, but did find a couple of references to it after googling.

Anyone have any info or experience with this instrument to share?

Thanks,

ktcosmos

i took like 5 psych tests, so its not really a big deal, also took the test your talking about, basically it tests how competitive you are.

TRHIT, just as I thought. YOUR CLUELESS.

The 'ASP' is a test to messure a player in respect to being an introvert or an extrovert to being competitive or non competitive to being able to seperate off field issues while actually being on the field and playing. To messure over commitment or NON commitment or being over bearing or judgemental or needing a pat on the back to being a self motivator. It allows a way for a coach to know how to best deal with your ups and downs when you 1st enter pro ball and he does not know you along with the other 30 new players that he will be getting. Most clubs utilize the test, however, there are a few that do not use a test at all.

Clueless regarding what-- I said fill out all forms requested---that is clueless?

You still have not answered the question to give advice you do which at times is questionable and I am not the only one who has questioned you

You tap dance well !!!!

Well, carping aside, thanks to all for your responses.

We knew about these psych profiles and that some teams use them and some don't, but weren't aware that the MLBSB had this ASP.

We were mainly surprised to get the request to have son complete this one so late in the pre draft period.

TRHIT, its not a questionaire or a form as you described it and it was obvious you were clueless to what cosmos was even talking about. But I should understand that is what life is, the clueless lending advice, especially when it comes to the baseball draft.

Nice how you tap dance from what I said regarding first pick deals--they are done--ask the Padres and young Mr Bush

Also I simply said fill out all forms--nothing more nothing less--I never described anything --you did

ktcosmos,
have your son complete anything & everything. Its another tool for scouts to use in evaluating your son.

Vance34,

Suggest you take a look at who posted what!
TR said, "fill out all the forms"...

E-6 said, "a psych test, pretty standard..."

Please pay closer attention to who posted what info before mis-stating or mis-interpretting....

I appreciate your perspective...Are you willing to disclose your profession or basis of information (or knowledge) relating to the draft? This would help folks, too.

IMO - With that attitude - and that poorly conceived message - you most likely will not only fail in your perceived mission - but you will remain unread in the future. LOL

Oldslug - you said:

"so its been 2 years since this was discussed"

If I'm following the discussion's chronology right, I think you meant two months.

The outcome at our house was that my son was drafted. (The specifics of our story are posted elsewhere in appropriate topics.)

I agree that all evaluations and profiles should be completed to the best of your son's ability.

Our family did some things "right" and some things "wrong" as son moved from age 15 1/2 to 18, but it all turned out great.

I believe that doing a much of what's recommended in the recruitment timeline on this site is what a kid has to do. In addition, when it comes to the professional recruitment scene, you just have to take lots of deep breaths and fill out those forms to the best of your ability.

Enjoy all of the wackiness that is sure to follow!

what a nice guy you are applaude

I am sure everyone is applauding you..........wrong!! dummhead dummhead rotlaugh

When the Bureau asks you to take that test, the opening line is "MLB is interested in you"

Instead, you choose to poke fun. Kinda makes this site mean-spirited by a few chosen ones.
