i do know you cannot be drafted unless the team that drafts you, has you registered with the commissioners office. I just don't know if the "Draft Tracker" gets their names from the commissioners office or not.

I would venture a "GUESS" and say NO. I know of players who were drafted that were not on Draft tracker. Whether they had a number or not, I don't know. noidea

While I don't guarante being 100% correct, I believe it is the kids the MLB Scouting Bureau has documented. Indiviual teams can submit their own list.

Ktkj is right it's the MLB bureaus list and will include the top prospects. there will be lots of players taken not on that draft tracker.

Thanks to all for the information. I noticed that some good players from ACC teams were not on that list. Steve Faris from Richmond (Clemson), Casey lambert from UVA, etc.

Ok, I'm confused (just a little bit nervous) Is the consensus view here that, if a kid is listed, it simply means they were submitted by a team that likes them, and/or that MLB has them in their database and they just routinely submit all names of kids they've scouted.

Meaning that just because you're listed doesn't equate to anything to shout about?

ktcosmos...The players listed in the MLB Scouting Bureau data base are kids that the Bureau has scouted. The Bureau's list is shared with each of the MLB clubs. Some of those kids will be drafted and some will not. Many kids will be drafted who are not on the Bureau's list because, in addition to this list, each club has their own prospects/list, which includes players who are not on the Bureau's list.

If the Scouting Bureau makes this list available to all the teams why don't they list the names of players submitted to them by the individual teams in addition to those that they have scouted?

Because they don't want everybody to steal away there player they have prolly already invested a great deal of money in just travel expenses !

One more thing for what it's worth in reference to ala "Draft-Tracker List". All names on this list will not necessarily get drafted but are simply "Bureau Finds". Every team turns in there list with some players just about on every list who "haven't" been issued number and placed on "Draft_tracker" for all to see so they can swipe 'em up ! Know what I mean????

There will be players drafted not on "Draft-Tracker", FWIW ! Smile Good Day ! Peace. Shep Knows a little but only "GOD" knows it all!

The Scouting Bureau scouts players for all the MLB teams, the teams don't scout for the Bureau, so the information flows one way.
If a team finds a player they might draft, they submit his name and ss# to the Commissioners office(?) they are assigned a draft number, only these players can be drafted.
Draft tracker is not a complete list of players register for the draft.

Thanks for clearing it up. I guess it does make sense for a team to keep their finds a secret so they don't get scooped up by another team.

The lists turned in by individual clubs to the Major League Baseball Commissioner's Office have to have a number issued to all players on each list within 3 to 4 day deadline before the draft in order for eligible player/prospect to be drafted according to former full-time MLB Bureau scout currently doing pro coverage for team who I sat with at FL STATE LEAGUE tonight.

He also said that players "WILL" be drafted who are not on draft-tracker and players "WILL NOT" be drafted that are on draft-tracker Smile

NJBB, Catfish and Hoovmom15 done good! Smile

Hope this helps clear things up a little for everybody else, including me Smile Peace, Shep
