Does anyone else have misgivings after seeing it? I think it's great for exposure for these kids but my personal preference is to sit at my little computer and listen to the conference call. Or watch it unfold on BaseballAmerica.com. Was every team instructed by Selig to take their entire five minutes to make a pick? I don't remember any first round ever taking four hours, but I could be wrong. Call me a purist but, I'd rather not turn this thing, this beautiful thing into something comparable to the NFL draft, the NBA draft, or even the NBA lottery! Comments?

I was disappointed by the entire event----I found sitting by the computer and listening to the picks or using the drafttracker just as good if not better

I enjoyed the videos of the draft picks but otherwise it is not rivetting TV.

Who were the TV show personnel? I think I saw a picture of them on the PG site but didn't recognize any of them.

Took to long, Liked it better when it was 1 min between picks....

Well, I thought David Rawnsley was great and I especially enjoyed seeing all those photos of players wearing PG hats. (maybe I'm the only one that noticed that)

Anyway, anything that helps promote amateur or professional baseball can't possibly be a bad thing! Don't understand why anyone would be against this great promotion of baseball. Why not join the other sports who televise the draft?

i agree it was a great idea for amateur baseball. and about time they did it,but i was the only one of my freinds who knew any names. or who knew what pg meant. and it did take a painfully long time between picks. i have watched the computer for the last few years that's ok, especially if your waiting for a name.
the country doesn't follow baseball the way the do other sports. or should i say the media doesn't promote amateur baseball the way the do other sports. at least the college game. it needs some tweaking but i agree it is good for youth baseball. and not to bad for pg either. i didn't see you on tv ,did i miss it?

No, you aren't the only one who noticed that, and it's a great tribute to your organization! I do agree that the promotion of young amateur players is important and a long time coming, I just couldn't warm up to the glitz of the production. Bud Selig must have worn out his Dr. Scholls walking to the mike every 5 minutes.

David Rawnsley from our staff did a good job (I thought) He is a talking machine and the only one involved in the telecast who has actually SEEN most of the players.

After the ESPN thing David and Allan Simpson (also a PG person) went directly to mlb.com for the rest of the draft coverage. The rest of us did our thing in the background and long before draft day.

I can understand why some might think it was boring, but it's one of the biggest days of the year for us. And I really do think it was good for the game.

No question. I guess I'm just feeling selfish. You know, I always felt sort of like an insider hunkered down in front of my computer listening in on the scratchy conference call. The other day I think I felt somehow like this great secret was let out of the bag. But like you say, great for your organization.

Nawp, I noticed, too.

But, I probably won't go to Sonic for awhile, and IF, I ever have ED, I'm not using whatever they were selling.

Television is about commercials.

They needed the five minutes to sell you a hamburger and fix your ED.

I do not think there is any dispute that the publicity was great but the duration of the first round was tedious for me---and for the few players in attendance it great but I like the mystique of the announcement and the phone call over the TV hype

I would be curious as to ratings----out side of our baseball world, it is small, I don't know who was watching

As for the people talking I had no problem as I know who they are and the PG aspect was cool but the overall thing did not make it for me---perhaps if we did have the 5 minute time frame per pick it might be better.

i think that was the downer, last year 18 rnds day 1 this year 5. it would be nice to here things a tad quicker. but i don't think outside the baseball world many people watch or listen to the draft. maybe this will boost the audience some?

Baseball can't try to turn their draft into the NFL's. In baseball many of these guys are never going to be in the pros-so to try and overdo it is kind of silly. Sure its a big deal but its not like a guy is going to go straight into a team's roster, similar to football, they will be in the farm system for a few years and may never make the pros. The baseball draft is interesting but it is not the same as football and basketball
