We're hitting up FL for the Underclass Showcase in October and took TARatko's advice and booked at the Best Western. As the only thing my son likes more than baseball is fishing, we couldn't resist the waterfront hotel with a private dock! Anything we should try to squeeze into our long weekend besides really good baseball?

vabaseballmom,

The Fort Myers area is our favorite vacation destination. We are usually most interested in watching baseball (college teams at spring training, MLB teams at spring training, or the Fort Myers Miracle), and spending time at the beach.

I'm sure you won't have a lot of time since you're only going for a weekend and you'll be busy with your son's tourney. But if you've never been to Sanibel Island and do find yourself with a free afternoon or early evening, I would recommend driving west to Sanibel and walking barefoot in the beautiful white sand, with a swim or float in the Gulf if you have time. We have taken our summer vacation on Sanibel the past 3 summers. We also like to drive further west one evening each vacation, to watch the beautiful sunset from the beach at the Mucky Duck restaurant on Captiva.

These are probably better suggestions for a return visit though, since there is a bit of driving involved and you'll be busy.

Best wishes to your son at the PG Underclass. I'm sure it will be a great experience for him!

Going with the Richmond Braves and you? Julie you are so right about Sanibel. My grandparents lived in Sarasota and we visited a few times over the years. My husband hopes to do "Spring Training" as soon as we get #1 son safely into college, so we'll try to get the lay of the land while we're there. Let's all hope the hurricane season has diminished and the boys have a beautiful, sunny weekend.

I will be coaching the 16u Dirtbags at this event. Our team is made up of 2011's and a couple of 2012's. This should be a great experience for these young guys. Our 17u team will also be there. I have no idea where I am sleeping yet but I know where I will be staying. At the ball fields!

Coach,
I've come to value your opinions on the board. I'll look for you during the weekend!

Crud, same weekend as Wake's "Black vs. Gold" games and parent weekend!

Keep me in mind for Jupiter, though.

Do you pay travel expenses?

If not, can I tell my wife you did?

Now thats what I'm talking about.

My Dads Family are all, I mean All still live in Florida.
After WW11 He settled in the NW
Only a couple left of his Siblings still alive out of 8.

But I was able to Fly to Ft Myers with my son in early Jan. 2006.
For a PG showcase.
And make a visit 2hours North to visit Family.
It wasn't nearly long enough of a visit to Florida.
But I'm glad we made the Trip.

And I'd go back in a heart beat.
