Hi, my son's team will be going to San Antonio June 9-11 to play a tournament and we need some advice on where we can stay and it not break the bank. We will be playing, I think, at St Mary's University.
I also need the same advice for Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We will be going there June 28-July 2 and will be play at LSU.

If anyone could help me on places that are affordable and still decent places to stay it would be helpful.

By the way, my idea of affordable is under $80 a night.

Thanks for your help.

First of all, you're not going to want to stay anywhere near St. Mary's Univ., as it's in a rough part of town. Second, while the Riverwalk is very nice, I doubt you can get anything for $80 or less. Your best bet is to find a hotel in the area between Loop 410 on the south, Loop 1604 on the north, Highway 281 on the east, and Interstate 10 on the west. Hampton Inns are usually very nice and might cost a bit over $80, but perhaps you could negotiate a group rate for less -- plus, a full breakfast is included. If you're considering a specific property, search for it on www.tripadviser.com and look at reviews by people who have actually stayed there. Good luck in your tourney!

Riverwalk if you want touristy, expensive hotels. But if you haven't been on the Riverwalk or to the Alamo, this would make a nice weekend.

Otherwise, around 281 & 1604. Or on I10 on the northwest side.

As IF said, you DON'T want to stay near St. Mary's.

Ringer, used to travel to SAT pretty regularly. Try the AmeriSuites/Airport on 281. There is also a Days Inn in the immediate area. Both are very close to the 281/410 intersection, 3-4 miles from the Riverwalk, less than 1 miles from the airport and less than 5 minutes from Trinity. The Amerisuites would be my pick...and we picked it many times. Being able to access on 281 gets you places so much faster than 410.

Good luck even finding a hotel room at all in SA in the summertime.

These guys give you good recommendations, but they are steering you close to Fiesta Texas, which soaks up all the hotel rooms.

Might be a little late in the game to be making plans for this weekend and also being able to save money.

Well, KD, you sure as heck don't want to stay on the east or south sides. Not if you want to find your car intact the next morning.
