California is a pretty big area to only ask about 25 or so kids. I see from your screen name that you're probably from the San Diego area. How about narrowing your questions down to the top 25 '09s from Orange County south? You would still easily find 25 outstanding class of 2009 kids from that region.

In general, the class of 2008 is going to be a fairly weak class in northern CA, but I don't know about the south. The class of 2009, on the other hand, is going to be a very strong class with some super players. Max Stassi has gotten a lot of press for being the first '09 to commit to a college, and he's outstanding; but there are quite a few other rising juniors who aren't all that far behind him that are going to become well known in the next 12 months. I expect the class of 2009 to be one of the better ones to come along in a while, at least in our area.

The top 3 of 4 '09 California HS players as ranked by PGCrossChecker (updated 9/28/07) have committed to attend UCLA:
State Rank Nat Rank Name Pos Ht Wt B T High School Hometown St
1 8 Max Stassi C 5-10 185 R R Yuba City, Yuba City,CA
2 14 Scott Griggs RHP 6-3 190 R R San Ramon Valley HS, Alamo,CA
4 20 David Nick MIF 6-1 165 R R Cypress HS, Cypress,CA

The '09 recruiting class for UCLA looks very strong.

You're assuming that UCLA will actually get these student-athletes. There is already speculation that at least one of them, and probably more, will go high enough in the draft to skip college.

A few more note worthy '09s include Andrew Susac, C, 6'1", 195, R/R, Jesuit HS, who has committed to Oregon State; and Jimmy Bosco, OF, 5'10",180, L/R, Jesuit HS, who has committed to Cal. Also, Justin Charles, MIF, 5'10", 165, Elk Grove HS, MVP of Team USA at the youth world championships, uncommitted.

Good point 06catherdad. Based on their talent, all three of those boys may be drafted very high. Time will tell...

The other '09 who is very good is Andrew Aplin (ranked #52 PG Crosschecker as of Sept '07) L/L 5-10 185 Suisun, CA. Attends Vanden Fairfield High School. As far as I know, uncommitted.
