Sorry, but the only camps I'm familiar with there are Mark Cresse's camps and I don't think they do anything during spring break. Your best bet is to check the websites for local colleges and junior colleges.

The only one I know of is in Thousand Oaks and I doubt there would be enough 13yo there to make it worthwhile for him.

13yo is typically a tough age to find camps for because they are beyond LL age where there's a big market and below HS age where there's a big market.

It does look like there's one at Los Alamitos HS run the by the coaching staff there. I have no idea how good it is or isn't or if it matches your son's spring break.

Calsportsmom ...

Suspect CADad is right on in terms of limited opportunities for several reasons, not the least of which is the different spring break schedules out there. Plus, many of the high schools where a camp might be held could well be involved in one of several spring tournaments.

If Los Al's dates work for you, it might be worthwhile as they have typically had a strong program in one of the toughest leagues in Orange County, and they are doing very well this year also.

You might want to check out a site called Baseball Resource, which covers So Cal baseball and quite a bit of their coverage is in Orange County. They provide a lot of information on tournaments and such, and you might get some information there, or even post on their message board to see if you can get some specifics. Here is a link to their site:

Good luck.

CADad and FutureBack.Mom

Thanks so much. I will look into the Los Alamitos HS camp and I will also check the Baseball Resource website. Is the Mark Cresse camp any good? I was actually thinking about that camp for the summer.

CalSportsMom,
Our experience at Cresse's camps was good. They have quality coaches and are very well organized. He'll be at the senior camp which is held at Vanguard University if you decide to send him this summer. Mark is a good guy, a good motivator and a very good coach and he makes sure he spends significant time at each of the camps every session.

If he's going into his freshman season you might want to check to see if the HS program has a summer or winter ball program they want the incoming freshman to play in.

If he does go to Cresse camp make sure you sign him up for the Angel's "clinic". The kids get to go on the field to hear some ex-players and current coaches speak and then get autographs from several players. Then they get to watch the Angels take BP before the game from pretty close up. About the only drawback is that they usually have to leave the game about the 7th inning to get everyone back.

CADad,
What a coincidence. I just received a Cresse brochure in the mail. The camp looks wonderful. My son will have to attend the Senior camp in early August or the June 17th camp (due to scheduling conflicts). I will also have him talk to the freshman baseball coach to find out about summer or winter ball programs. Thanks so much for your input. It's a lot of work trying to get him prepared for high school both academically and athletically.
