Depends on what you are looking for in an "academy".

Is it:
1) Private and/or group instruction
2) Participation in an elite travel team
3) Dedicated workout facilities/gym
4) Training and conditioning experts
5) Grooming players for the next level (esp. college)
6) Access to product discounts

Most people assume #1 but there are several other benefits you might be looking for. Several academies in So Cal are more for player exposure via national-level tournaments, with a bit of player instruction in the background. Cost is also a factor that you need to think about (monthly fees vs pay-as-you-go).

ABD Acadamy www.abdbulldogs.com

Highly ranked teams, good coaching, well connected with College programs and PG. We were going to join them but the drive was just too far for us.

My son's pitching/hitting coach formally of another organization is setting up one in Irvine. He works out of another facility in Ventura area also. Excellent coach, well connected, PM and I will send you the information.

West Coast Baseball: http://www.westcoastbaseballschool.com

Well connected, good coaching, has a scout team. Friend of mine son went through their summer HS program and was very impressed with the work outs. He also played on their scout team.

BTW biggest most well known may or may not be best for you. Need to check out a few and decide which is best fit.

Hope this helps.

Kedmunds,

It all depends on what you are looking for in a program. What age level? ABD does a good job and has quite a few teams. I heard of the MVP program but we have not run into any of there teams. We(SGV Arsenal) are program of 4 teams with one at each age level. It all depends what you want. There are not many academies in California and most do not have teams that are very good. There are many options in California.

Kedmunds,
California is a rather large state. Could you narrow down what part of Cali you are interested in please?

Pronk ...

I was qondering the same thing but I think it might be because they are good ... much like the Encinitas Reds were a powerhouse (perhaps they still are, have been away from the HS scene for 7 years now) and were dreaded as well.

Just a thought ...
