The Classic Division looks good. Anyone going to any of the games?

bbbum, thanks for posting the link. I've been waiting for those brackets for quite a while.

My son plays for Cathedral Catholic, so I'll see all the Group A games. Outstanding talent/programs across the board - this will be a lot of fun.

baseballbum, found this note on Elk Grove who is in Classic Division, site had them at #34 in the nation, looks like they are good team.

34.Elk Grove (Calif.) HS (28-5)

While Elk Grove alum Buck Martinez will be off managing Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, the Thundering Herd will set course for another California Interscholastic Federation Sac-Joaquin Division I, sectional title, which it won last year with a strong corps of underclassmen who return this season.

Elk Grove does not have the pitching to be successful at a high level this year. They do return some young guys who swing it but don't expect them to be nearly as good as last year.

My son's team is in the pool with Elk Grove (as well as Temecula Valley - another highly touted program)- we play them on Tues, 3/18. I'll be anxious to see that one and see how Cathedral fares against reputable programs such as these.

I'll post scores to as many games as I can see if anyone is interested.

Yeah, a lot of coaches play that game to try and get their seasons off to a winning start. Or they use it as a way to win "something" considering that their season will probably be a bust.

I'm always of the opinion that playing up is best...if you want to get better you have to play better competition.

I definitely agree with this statement but they have a certain way of putting out the divisions and classes.

That Cathedral / Elk Grove matchup looks pretty good, I may have to check that one out if my son doesn't have a game that day. bighair

Cathedral Catholic pulled one out yesterday. Husband with 4 dingers in 5 games, 2 of them walk offs, wow!

Looks like Elk Grove struggled yesterday so it should be interesting.

TEMECULA VALLEY 8

TV 003 000 5 – 8 8 1
CC 101 122 3 – 10 12 4

Pounders HR in the top of the 7th was about the longest I've ever seen at Cathedral. Over the scoreboard in left center...probably somewhere between 420-440 feet. WOW!

Too bad he blew it on the mound in the bottom of the 7th. ;-)

Today, Cathedral beat Elk Grove 9-6 (WP Paul DeFrancesco, LP Josh McMahon), so it all comes down to the game with Grossmont for the Pool A lead.

My guesses for the other pool winners: B-Poway, C-Montgomery, D-Silverado.

Great baseball in SD this week. Lots of scouts/recruiters at every game. This is as fun as it gets.

Gas Me,
The recruiters are there but they can't approach you if you've got an '09. Is that correct?
