Boy, has this forum ever been dead lately!

Is there nothing for us to talk about in California with February 1st coming up?

Does anyone have any thoughts on which high school teams will be special this year, or which players will stand out as draft prospects?

Gotta go back to sleep now......ZZZZZZ

FBM, that's very good! Unfortunately, Arnold doesn't seem half so bad as our disfunctional legislature. Remember, I live in Sacramento and you're almost in Mexico, so I probably get exposed to their nonsense on the news more than you do.

Let's spend billions on rebuilding Kalifornia's infrastructure....HUH? How about lets prosecute the b*st*rds that mis-spent the funds to begin with. Our gas tax money has been spent for social programs, and now we're gonna borrow money to build roads for which gas tax money was collected? In private enterprise, that would get you tried for misappropriation of funds, or embezzlement.

It is good to see that a few Californians are actually awake, though, as proven with these posts.

By the way, observer; posts, like birthdays, don't seem to matter as much after awhile. I've got a birthday coming up in the next couple months, and it matters more to my kids, and parents, than to me. Of course, it would matter if I ceased to have them, I guess. Big Grin

Sometimes I wonder if 400 means I've contributed anything, or just piled it higher and deeper on top of a few other choice posters.

This forum got so 'dead' that I now sometimes forget to look down the page at it.

Hey! Should be some good college ball in NorCal this year. Fresno State back in the top-25...Cal as well. USF in top-40 and my favorite team will be better than folks think. Big Grin

jbb,

I'll spice it up a little. I am going to play amateur psychologist with your new avatar. Let me see, your son has now gone from your basic flame thrower in high school, to successful freshman pitcher who has now incorporated the "art" of pitching into his game for the upcoming sophmore campaign. Hence, the Van Gogh portrait symbolizes this transformation. Alternatively, maybe you have been a little more introspective lately noidea Hope that helps!

Good to see some Cali posts. I just purchased tickets to see the USD Torreros face Texas next month. I will get to watch some good quality games with the best College team out there in Texas.

Oh I am in San Diego.

As usual Rancho Bernardo and Mission Beach will have some good teams in San Diego County. My son will face some tough competition next year when he enters high school.

Hey....For the Cali-Forum this thing is just rockin'...

Open question:...With all the Cali Teams ranked this year are we finally seeing a break in the anti west coast Bias that excluded USF and Cal Poly last year?

'06CD...may be only 400, but they were a quality 400...

BBB, (I like 3B better)...Take me out to the Ballgame:...I may start my season early with Pepperdine/UNLV the 3rd, 4th and 5th if there is a travel team slot. Let's see, 70 degreees, overlooking the pacific, Pepperdine highly ranked. Couple weeks later will take in your same Texas at UNLV. Love to see two of the three central coast '05's square off but not sure about any PT for either as frosh at Texas or Vegas...May get to SD later in the year...

JB..Anyhting special I need to take a trip north to the farm to see?

CD...Good interpretation on the avatar...I'll take a crack...I figure that Avatar is a self portrait when the mound is topped with relatives!

Cool

06CatcherDad-

Agree that this forum has been ZZZZZ lately. Thanks for waking us up. Smile

Justbb, 3B and O44 -

It appears we all have a little something in common....Texas!!! Except the Dirtbags are not playing them at home. We are on the road for this one. Frown

But having never been to Texas...I have to say I am looking forward (if a little nervously) to the trip.

There's a clock on the Dirtbag website that counts down the days, hours, minutes and even seconds to opening day. I remember when it first started up...it started with 50 or 60 days and now it is at 21 days and counting!!! Eek I can't believe how quickly the days are flying by!

CD -

Thanks for contributing to the Cali Forum and the interesting analysis of justbb's new avatar. Big Grin I follow the PA(luvbb..that's for you)/OH/KY/WV forum and enjoy the comraderie I find there.

DB2BMom,

You start about one week earlier than us but it is down to 27 days and you are right, it is hard to believe how fast the time flies. Such a good thing when you are waiting for the season to start Smile Good luck in Texas - I'll be following.

Thanks for visiting our forum and please feel free to chime in there anytime you like since it is open to all. I'll try and visit here more often to prevent the ZZZZZZ's from happening Smile

O44 - Maybe we can set up a shrink-shop on the hsbbweb Smile

DB2BMom....I guess after the Rose Bowl it seems important for this Cali-boy to point out that the countdown clock shows up on a lot of College baseball teams web sites...my initial reaction was sort of negative as appears to be one more overly commercial ploy...but I started watching the seconds tick off...and thinking how much closer we were to baseball with each tick and...well...I got right into simply watching those seconds go by! Never thought I'd have so much fun with so little....29....28...27...26...25...Now if one of us can just take a series from those darned Longhorns!

CD..

Silly me...Isn't that exactly what this is?... Cool......I pulled up a couch 6 months ago...and I feel a great deal better for it...

I will chime in. The Cali JC's start in 14 days. So I am happy. I will get to more than one Long Beach State game as I am in Long Beach. The Dirtbags play RZ's son, U of IL-Chicago on LB this year. College baseball should be exciting this year in Calif.

kjktj,

Since you bring it up, do you have any knowledge of Fresno City JC? (or anyone else for that matter). My son has a teammate from high school on that team named Matt Lieb and he can hit the ball a long, long ways.

I don't have any personal knowledge of him, Lieb had a good year last year, was All_league 1st Team. Fresno is usually very competitive. Lieb also signed a NLI with the University of San Francisco to play ball in 2007. You can check the stats and team performance for all Calif. JC's here:

DB2BMom, Austin is a terrific City, other than traffic congestion.. UT is almost in the middle of town. I know there is a direct flight from San Jose to Austin if that is convenient. 6th Street closes down most every night and attracts a big crowd. If you like barbeque, you can find some great places. Georgetown is about 30 miles North on I35 and has a nice shopping district filled with local items/arts/crafts/etc. San Marcos, about 25 miles or so to the South, has a huge discount mall which I have been dragged to a few times by my wife. Eek The Texas Hill country surrounding Austin is very pretty, also.
The UT fans love them Horns and "hook-em" can get a little old sometimes but the enthusiasm makes the games quite a bit of fun.
We will be sitting in Sunken Diamond on 2/3 at 5pm for the first pitch of Fullerton/Stanford. Looking forward to seeing Cal as many times as possible also. BA gave them some great preseason hype. Seems they are putting a lot of pressure on a young and inexperienced pitching staff and one pitcher who had great success but in only 14 innings in the Cape. I tend to agree with Justbb that Stanford is underrated this year which is pretty unusual nationally.
CD, Fresno City is one of the top programs in CA. They get plenty of players drafted. Will check and see if they play anywhere close and try and get you a first hand report.
I am pretty envious reading all this excitement. These are such great times for your sons and you as parents. I hope each of you get to enjoy them and treasure the memories as much as we did. It is worth every effort and sacrifice you might need to make...and it goes so very quickly.

San Diego Torreros usually have a decent team. I believe they have a better program that State( with Tony Gwynn) but in a couple of years watch out for San Deigo State.

Form SD's webpage:

The 2006 USD baseball team, under the guidance of 8th-year head coach Rich Hill, received some good news with their preseason national ranking of 36th by Collegiate Baseball. Topping the list is Texas, last year's national champs, who the Toreros will host in a three-game homestand to begin their 2006 slate over February 3-4-5. Rounding out the top-five is Florida, Oregon State, Nebraska and Rice. Coach Hill and his staff are wrapping up their fall camp and will be in action this coming Saturday, Jan. 14th, with the annual Pro-Alumni game at 1:00 pm at Cunningham Stadium. Some recent alums expected to play include Tony Perez, Aaron Wilson, Mike McCoy, Justin Blaine, Kyle Collins and Matt Falk.

The West Coast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll was just released as well and the Toreros are picked second behind Pepperdine. USD received two first place votes and 42 points, with the Waves coming in at 48 points and 6 first place votes. Following USD was San Francisco (34 points), LMU (32 points), Gonzaga (26 points), Santa Clara (18 points), Saint Mary's (16 points) and Portland (8 points). The Toreros return a solid group of players, led by juniors Shane Buschini, Josh Butler, and Jordan Abruzzo, to go with a recruiting class that was ranked 12th in the nation (Baseball America).

RHP05 -

Best of luck to Eric and the Mustangs against Fresno. I'll be watching the Dirtbag Alumni game on the Jan 28th.

infielddad -

Thanks for the tips for the barbeque and shopping in Austin. I think hubby will go for the barbeque but not the shopping. Wink Maybe I can talk him in to some sightseeing.
