There should be plenty of American Legion teams in your area. They accept 19 yr. old players and fit the description of what you're looking for, at least here in our area.

Finding summer teams/leagues in CA for college players is not easy. There is a summer wood bat league called the California Coastal League. I would provide a link but the website doesn't seem to work.
I did find sites for some of the teams in that league and that led me to a site in SoCal with something called the Western Baseball Assn. Thought this might be of help to you. Good luck and I hope this might assist.

Guys.....thanks a lot....will check them out. Wooden bat definitely not a problem.....he loves to hit with wood.

06catcherdad....my husband called the American Legion today....National Office.....they advised.... if born before 1987, can't play...so that leaves son out....but appreciate the suggestion...all ideas and suggestions are welcome...

Listing of Semi pro and collegiate summer leagues and teams

In Northern California the league that most JC players participate in is the AABC leagues that include the Sacramento Rural League.

Thank you RR, but after being away to college for the first time...this summer...between his freshman and sophomore years....he would like to stay in So. Cal. We just moved here...and he left for college 10 days later....son would like to be at his new home for a few months...before he heads back to the east coast.

Infielddad and Bullwinkle....great leads....we got some positive feedback today.....but we know it's going to be difficult.....so many great ballplayers in California.....thanks again.

Hey arizonared, staying in So. Cal is never a bad decision. If I didn't reside in Arizona, I would be somewhere in Cal. Good luck to your son. Keep up the hard work.
