I have been told by someone who I trust that a bunch of California teams have players that are wearing Dickies shorts. He swears that he is not pulling my leg. Is this really true?

CA does have Dickies shorts, in our area the surfers/skateboarders wear them (N.CA). But have never seen them worn for baseball if thats what you're asking.

My son only wears his Dickies at his So Cal high school as a part of his school uniform. He also wears them when he goes out on a date. The versatility of this nicely manufactured textile however does not extend to the baseball field, because my son gets very dirty when he plays baseball and the Dickies can only take so much sliding and diving.

No need to patronize me. The guy I was speaking with is the vice president of sales and marketing for a sporting goods manufacturer that is big in baseball. Today I reconfirmed with him that he said California and he said that there are lots of teams in California wearing them to play ball. Maybe it is more in the urban areas and therefore those on the HSBB Website have not seen it. If it is true, I hope it doesn't catch on in Texas.

Speaking of shorts, maybe the White Sox will wear shorts in their game today like the did back in 1976!

Sorry UE,
I cannot come up with any reason urban or otherwise why players would wear the D word apparel for baseball. Let's see some pics.

I've never seen it in central California or the Bay area. Seems really impractical to me...

Okay, somebody must have pictures if this is true. All I can say is what 08Dad says. Son has played all over CA and we never saw anything like this. Is it a new trend (as in the last 6 months)????

I go to a lot of tournaments from Santa Barbara to San Bernardino and Orange County and have not seen one single team with the shorts. Someone is yanking your chain.

I'll chime in here from LA Co., OC., Inland Empire - son plays nearly year round, and has for the past several years, and I have NEVER seen anyone in Dickies playing on the field. In fact, on every team my son has been on, if they are on the field with D's on, they are considered out of uniform and not allowed to practice, work out or play.

That is not to be critical of Dickie's shorts, many kids wear them and they are great shorts, just no one wears them for baseball that we have ever seen.

I wouldn't be surprised. Back in the 90's I saw players wearing Dickies, jeans and shorts while coaching and playing in the LB area. They were not serious or travel teams. They were local teams that played with anyone they could find. I felt like we were playing a slow pitch softball game. We typically won games by mercy against teams like this. I can't see a serious team wearing Dickies though.
