For those of you that have sons attending and playing for Coastal Carolina do you know how they were found by the coaching staff ie showcases, camps, etc. My son is very interested in this school and wants to make sure he is seen by the coaches. He sent them a letter with his background etc. and we will be visiting in Feb. I noticed that the have a satallite camp in NJ which is close to us here in NY and thought it might benefit him to go.

My son goes there and loves it. I thought I would post in here first before everyone told you to send a personal message. Welcome to the hsbbweb btw
Here is another thread on the school and it also links to other Coastal threads: Coastal Carolina
To answer your question, you will be seen by their coaches by attending one of their camps. As far as I am aware, all of their top prospects this year attended. They also scout Perfect Game events and other high profile tournaments. Their recruiting coodinator is from NJ so they recruit that area nicely.
Thank you so much for your quick reply. He is going to go to the camp in New Jersey this summer. We are visiting the campus on Feb 16, he wrote to the coach and told him and they emailed back to stop by the stadium they should be practicing. At this point he wants to go see the campus and get a feel for the baseball atmosphere. He went to UVA and Uconn and left with very different opinions of each. He loved UVA - everything about it, coaches, facilities, campus, etc- he didn't care for UConn - mainly the layout of the campus. We will also be visiting University of South Carolina and Jacksonville University . He's trying to get an idea of the type of school he likes.

I went down to the University of South Carolina about two weeks ago. The campus is great, it's mixed in with downtown Columbia; they're in the process of making a bunch of new buildings and the new baseball stadium..makes it hard to get around, but South Carolina was very nice

Education wise your son is all over the lot. UVA is a top school and very hard work load. Great education. Coastal is not considered a great education but good for baseball. What position does he play?

I don't know what caliber player your son is but their is a big difference between the campus and education of UVA and Coastal.
Coastal is a small campus. It has the feel of a High school. If you look at collegeboard.com you will see under campus setting it says that it says that is a commuter campus.
UVA is the real deal. campus college life etc.
If all your son cares about is baseball then it doesn't matter where he goes. Then choose coastal. less work.
Coastal has this program that your son can be a marine biologist and get in state tuition.
We'll see once Radford gets on their feet. Same conference. Radford has better coaching then it did in the past. They are attracting better players.

Scout10 Wow! Sounds like someone from Coastal pee-ed in your corn flakes this morning. Your loyalty to your state is commendable, but your bashing of Coastal is irresponsible. My son has enjoyed his experience there and appreciates the small school atmosphere as well as the dedicated coaching. Unfortunately, we live in Florida, so he is unable to commute. His roommates form Virginia, Miami, etc. also found the commute a little expensive at today's gas prices.

I am with you---the Coastal roster does not indicate a commuter school at all---they are also a preseason selection in many places to win their conference
The campus is also one of the most beautiful I ever been on and the coaching staff is second to none

Why do people bash and then say they didn't ? That was clearly bashing.
OK then what did I say that wasn't true. Take baseball out of your reasoning and tell me. If I am wrong I will admit it.
I didn't say anything bad about Coastals baseball program. As far as Radford goes they have better coaching then they had before and they are attracting better players then they did before. They will give the Coastal more competition.

their is a big difference between the campus and education of UVA and Coastal.
Coastal feels more like a High School then College. It is more of a commuter school no matter what they tell you. When you visit Coastal go there during the day and then go back at night. No one their at night. All commuters.
UVA is the real deal. campus college life etc.
Just to start.

Room for 2200 housing and the school has around 8000 students. Where are the other 6000 students. They are commuting to school from off campus housing. They commute. The traffic and parking reflect this.

I think you will find most schools are the same. Our local Uni has on and off campus housing. All of them do. Does that make it a bad choice? I have been there and it had a great atmoshere and nice facilities. Any player would enjoy being 15 mins from Myrtle Beach. Hands down my choice between the 2.
