we were at a one day camp this past Sunday. Nice school and what appears to be a good program. They practice in a big indoor gym (looks like 4 indoor tennis courts).

I was very impressed with the coaching staff. The hitting instructor talked alot about staying back and not lunging. The catching coach was a blast and gave alot of great tips/advice. The head coach gave a nice talk about recruiting, what he looks for in a player, etc.

I was suprised that this is that tough of a school. He said the average HS GPA was 3.8 and the avg SAT was over 1300. His main competition was Princeton, Lafayette, Lehigh, not Rutgers. He also talked about interviewing players, and that if they don't show respect (dress well, firm handshake, look you in the eye, knowledge of the program), then he won't bother with them.

Then they ran through a similated practice that was very impressive. All the players were there. Coach said that since they have such high academic standards, he doesn't get the best players, so their edge is that they 1)are stronger 2) will out-hustle you, and 3) bring more passion than the competition.

They are ranked #14 in pre-season polls, so they must be doing something right.

Thoughts??

They have been doing things right for a number of years when Rick Dell was at the helm. He resigned in July to take a position with MLB.

The "new" Head Coach, Dean Glus, is not actually new--he has been there at Dell's side for some 16 years---now he steps into the leaders role--obviously, in view of the initial rankings the respect is still there.

Credit the administration for getting continuity---I like to think that brings continued success

Yes, it was coach Glus who talked to about a dozen parents/coaches about his approach. He's not old, but is old-school in many respects. I was very impressed with the organization, recruiting, and standards of the school.

One thing he mentioned is that D2 schools only have half the scholarships that D1 has. I assume he knows what he's talking about, but I thought D1 and D2 had the same amount of scholarships.

I keep learning everyday...

I saw them play against Haverford several times between 2003-2006. Top-to-bottom the were studs. NCAA bids in each of the last 4 years.

That conference is equally strong. As I remember 10-12 players from that league signed professionally last year.
