jbbaseball, I sent you a PM ...

It's a great school academically. Beautiful campus and very competitive team. Coaching staff is all business, but that's exactly what we wanted and what we think works best in the college environment.

My son didn't end up there but they were very professional during the recruiting process. We didn't visit but I was told by several the campus is beautiful.

The Phoenix started off HOT this year rattling off 10? in a row and just suffered their first defeat of the season last night. It should be quite the matchup when the Chanticleers come to town. Last year we were perfect against the SoCon but we suffered our first defeat against CoC last week when we had them down 11-6 heading into the bottom of the 9th. We took the lead again in the top of the 10th 12-11 but still could not hold it and lost in the bottom of the 11th. It ain't over until its over against those guys Roll Eyes

One of my friends son was in the recruiting process there. He accepted an offer closer to home, but he did say he loved the campus and the coaches.

Just a big baseball fan. Please visit my site about College Baseball Summer Leagues at http://collegesummerball.blogspot.com/

If I could send my son to Elon I would. It is a beautiful campus with a very nice baseball field. Everything there is extraordinarily well cared for. The academics are near Ivy League standards. The sole drawbacks are cost (even with, say, a 25% scholarship, it will cost $30K or so when all is said and done) and the fact that it is in a town even smaller than the school. Yes, a student can get into big cities within an hour's drive, but that is not like walking back to the dorm after a few beers, is it? I suspect that social life is fairly well contained for this reason. But again--for me, as a father, Elon is a dream come true.

The Phoenix continue to win......most non-baseball people I talk to speak highly of the school as well.....recruiting contact continues.....perhaps an official visit this weekend......plus son continues to do what he does well...HIT....
batting .500 through 9 games with a .657 OBP......

My advice on any recruiting trip to any school is to study trends and ask questions. For instance...look at the starting lineup in recent games.

Where did the kids come from:
Are they four-year kids homegrown at that particular school?
Or, are they predominantly Juco transfers and reds-shirts.

Some schools like to develop pitchers..but rely on Juco transfers for seasoned position players.
