This is an amazing website. I'm looking for some information and this seems a good place to start. I am an Australian with a son 17 who plays baseball. He is in our States sports academy and plays in the national competition for our State (South Australia) We are looking at options for him for his college years but know nothing about the college system in the US. If any one can help me with some answers it would be appreciated. My first question relates to the academic eligibility, I believe there is a STAT or similarly named test that athletes need to pass to enable them to be considered. Does anyone have any idea where in Australia he could sit this test? Any information such as 'college baseball recruitment for dummies' would also be a great first point of contact for me too.

You're home free mate! Welcome to the HSBBW! I’m sure there will be someone on the high school baseball web that can give you much better information. Some may have already been in your situation. The test you speak of is the SAT test. There are others too like the PSAT and the ACT. These are standardized achievement tests required for college admission in the US. Some colleges require different test for admission and some private institutions can waive the tests (but don't count on that). There are a number of ways you can get information on these tests but with a computer and internet access that shouldn't be a big problem. You could email a specific colleges and request information, or contact an independent company that markets tutoring courses that assist students in these tests. Kaplan is well known company that does this http://www.kaptest.com/college. I would also contact the NCAA at ncaa.org and research their requirements for international students. Best of luck. Fungo

Here is a link to the SAT website. There is a database there that will let you search for colleges that fit your criteria.
I didn't look, but your answer about out of country questions are probably addressed there somewhere.
A few years back there was a mom from Australia on here that had a son that played in the US.
At this minute, I cannot recall her screen name, maybe someone else can. If they are still here, her prior posts would provide good info and maybe you could contact her, through this site, for her specific experiences.
This is the best 'college baseball recruitment for dummies' website there is.

My son hangs with a couple of sussie Tennis players at his college. Canadians are under the same situation as we are foreigners as well. You have to contact the clearing house and the college board as FO said.

Aussie Dad- there is a poster on this website that travels to Australia every Christmas, Bob Williams. He sponsers teams that play in the Goodwill games in Australia. He would be a great source of info and hopefully will see this question and get back to you. Good luck
