Dow...

Do a search on the old threads I think there are some enlightening SCU threads...

If that doesn't work let me know I'll be happy to give you a thumbnail...and answer some general questions...one of mine was lightly recruited there we went to jr days and did some research...

Dow,
Some information from a person who is local but not in any way close to the program:
Santa Clara is a great school, academically. Their graduates do very well in the Bay Area. The campus blends with the town, but has been upgraded considerably.
The baseball program has a history of success before about 1995, or so. I think they made a hire for a head coach that was not a good fit and SCU struggled considerably after that.
They hired a young and very high profile coach a few years back. There were extremely high expectations set, including a return to the glory years and trips to Omaha.
They have a beautiful new stadium which opened last year. It really is a beauty.
SCU has had a number of very high profile recruits who committed and then signed after the draft. I believe Philip Hughes, the #1 prospect in the Yankees organization was one. Chuck Lofgren, the #1 or #2 in the Indians was another.
The team certainly has not achieved to the level of the publicized expectations despite signing very good players. SCU is not at the level where they can compete with Pepperdine, San Diego or USF, but play a very competitive DI level baseball.
Locally, there is a lot of message board traffic on the program. There is as much good as negative. I have no idea what is true.
If it were my son, with the quality of education available, I would look seriously at this school and program. There is a lot of information beyond what I know that should help decide it if is a fit.

DowBBClub: Infield Dad is about right. Our son was also recruited there. Great Jesuit school, beautiful park and weather, a lot of connections in the area, clean cut kids on campus, but mediocre baseball program, despite getting good recruits in recent years. Coach is former Stanford guy. A few years ago they fired the pitching coach mid-season and had a few player defections because of dissatisfaction with the program. There is a thread somewhere on the HSBBWeb. Hope this helps.

I am attending their Junior Day in April, so anything would help me. Thank you for the help.

SCU is a great school. They are trying to get the best players they can. I met the head coach a few years back when they were recruiting my son. Mark
Obrien is the head coach. He was full of energy when I met him and my son really liked them. Thom Myers was the other coach but he I believe he is gone. Chad Baum was a summer college ball coach of my kids and is one of the coaches there also. He seemed to be a good coach too. Give them a shot, I believe they are only going to improve.

DBC: Congrats on all the interest you are getting from Cali schools! Chad Baum(er) is a Fullerton Titan and World Series Alumni; he came over with Coach Serrano to be an assistant non-paid coach at Irvine. He moved to the Broncos to be a paid assistant…Baumer is a great coach, has great people skills and will be a future head coach I am sure. He will get Santa Clara to be a power school….as a side note if you are a catcher you can’t have a better coach to move you to the next level.

As a point of information, College Coaches do look at this web site, unless you have already verbally committed to Long Beach, I would ditch that Dirtbag avatar…

My son went to the junior day at Santa Clara last year. Great baseball facilities! The campus looks a bit like a resort. Players conducted the tour of the campus and so we had an opportunity to talk very candidly with them about their experiences on the team. It's pretty cool to get invited to the junior day..congrats to your son!

How many players were at last year's junior day? Some Junior days are small groups - others more of a mob scene - I was wondering where SCU fell in that spectrum.
