This thread has been awfully quiet lately. Does anyone have news about kids from this region signing NLIs? Coaches calling? Making the varsity team?
Anybody get a new bat? Car? Anything?
Uh...how bout this weather?....

so it goes... and things are slow all over. But with all the great baseball in the SW, this thread ought to get more action. Good luck with your tourney DMan. It would be great if you post some results.

Will do spizzle. Son was just released after a concussion. I am very nervous for today. Right field first game, pitching second.
Only 13U National, but they are very good.

I used to live in Carlsbad, NM. They used to have a very strong program in the state. I don't see much about the Cavemen on this site. I don't find any Carlsbad kids on any prospect lists. Are they still a strong program?

K Graham-
Thanks for joining in- I just love talking about New Mexico kids. Carlsbad is always tough in NM and will continue that tradition without doubt. You probably know that Cody Ross is still active in MLB. Brian Hall was a high pick out of Stanford (KC) a few years back, and Brian Flores (Tampa Bay) pitched for ASU in the CWS last year. There are a handful of kids from Carlsbad currently playing JC up to D1. Stephen Miehls (OF)at Yale and Todd Weldon (RHP- Garden City JC) come to mind. I don't know much right now about the 08 or 09 class, but I'd bet they've got some kids that can play a little. I do know that there LL team did very well in last year's state tourney, and that of course will bode well soon for the HS team. I'll check back on this topic as I hear more.

Thanks Spizzlepop. We remember Carlsbad as a baseball town. With a population just around 20K, they had 3 little league organizations -- that diluted the talent that played in District/State Little League, but lots of great young ballplayers. We were there when Brian Hall was in HS -- my son idolized Shane Andrews (Expos/Cubs) -- and we follow Cody Ross still. Coach Forney had a strong program for many years, but I understan has moved on now. Carlsbad kids just seem to be absent from PG events, prospect lists, this site, etc.

You're right this thread is very slow. Can't wait for baseball and baseball news to pick up. Carlsbad has been a very good team for the past few years. Tough on us every year. The Weldon kid has moved on, as well as Pate and I believe Toves. All very solid. They return J-Rod...I think again very talented.

Uh, something about the weather.

I am in Prescott, where it was mostly rain mixed with a little snow the past few days.

Son texted from Tucson to say that practice was cancelled on Friday due to weather, and that it was snowing like crazy not far outside town.

They made up for that with an 18 inning intra squad on Saturday. Looking ahead to Feb. 22, when the Cats open in Georgia.
