UNCG just announced new assistants Chris Roberts, formerly pitching coach at NCSU, and Jamie Athay, formerly of Kent State. Any thoughts?

UNC-G turns over their assistants every year it seems, for whatever reason.

My thoughts are that nothing will change in that respect.

Chris Roberts is a great guy, with A+ character. A soft-spoken family man. We enjoyed the time we spent with him in the recruiting process and my son would have gladly played for him had things turned out that way. You will be hard-pressed to find anyone to say anything bad about him.

Let me just say that Coach Roberts is outstanding. They could not have hired a better pitching coach or person for that matter. I know him very well and he is first class. He is a great guy that anyone would be glad to have their son around. Im very happy for Coach Roberts.

Thanks for the responses. Seems like Roberts will be a great addition, as UNCG returns most position starters, but will have young pitching.

I can't really speak to the coaching, but the campus is beautiful. The baseball field is spectacular. Smile

I have been all over NC and my son has played on several college fields over the last three years. You will not find a better playing surface than the one at UNCG. Elon is a close second imo as far as the playing surface. Coach Roberts will be a fine addition to the staff. He should help alot in in state recruiting as well because he is one of the most liked guys in NC college baseball.

UNCG had the top recruiting class for small to mid D1s last year according to BBA (I believe). Does anyone know what happened with Sam Serrano -I think he was recruiting for them?

Thanks for the kind words. I am now coaching in High School. Had a great recruiting class, but wanted to be around the family more.

Looks like UNCG is going to lose another asst. Chris Roberts is going to my alma mater, Stetson, to assume the Pitching Coach Duties.
