Wake swept Duke this past weekend, climbing into 3d place in the Atlantic Division of the ACC and putting them just one win away from clinching 7th seed in the ACC tournament. They go to BC Thursday for a 3-game series through Saturday.

That one win would put them ahead of both Duke and Clemson to make the conference tournament field. A sweep, combined with a sweep by someone in the Ga. Tech-UVA series, would even edge them ahead of one of them into 6th place.

That much may not seem likely, but given the way things were going about a month ago, it's good to see a strong finish!

I think Clemson has the edge on BC no matter what. Even if BC swept, Clemson would finish 1/2 game ahead of BC.

BUT, if Duke were to sweep Va. Tech, AND Wake wins at least once at BC, Clemson could get locked out. That is still possible, though I think VT will probably take at least one game from Duke if not more.

He must be a hitter! It's been a rough season on the pitching staff. But some quality and depth is coming next year, so enjoy it while you can!

VT has to take a game from Duke, this is why that win at Duke meant so much to Clemson and Duke pulled that stunt a few weeks back.

Not sure what the stunt was, maybe you can clue me in. But after Thursday's games:

Wake clinched a playoff berth and no worse than a 7 seed with a 10-3 win at BC.

Duke stayed alive with a 4-2 win at Va. Tech. Clemson would be the 8 seed at this point, but could get shut out of the playoff picture if Duke were to sweep in Blacksburg.

UVA beat Ga. Tech, 4-2, despite going with a spot starter (for reasons unknown). If UVA were to sweep that series, Wake would hop over Ga. Tech for the 6 seed.

MD,
A few weeks ago at Duke, game was tied, then Clemson went ahead with a HR and game was called for lightening delay. The lightening was not seen at the field, but called in from a cell phone not in the area. Then it began to lightly rain and Duke coach and players refused to tarp the field, the groundscrew suddenly missing, rain came and field too wet to resume play. The HR was discounted and the game was called a tie.

Regarding that Duke/Clemson game was a protest filed?

With the game apparently meaning so much I would think a protest would have been in order

Cheaters never prosper, eh?

Unfortunately any hope of Wake hopping over one of UVA or Ga. Tech bit the dust, but Wake can still shoot for a 14-15 record with a win today. That would put a major upswing on the end of a tough season.

Best part is they made the tourney got to take one step at a time.
Clemson's first challenge might be Miami. Eek

Whatever, hoping for lots of ACC representation in the playoffs.

I am taking a stab at this, as VTech and Clemson coaches have strong ties, their mission was to take down Duke. I give them lots of credit for coming through. Smile

I will ask the question once again---was there a protest lodged with regard to game in question ? or is there a rule covering the situation that occurred?

What was a tier 2 Conference for years. Maybe
(or has become) a three tier top conference.

- Terps, BC, Hokies & Duke in Tier 3.
- WF, Clemson & Cavaliers in Tier 2.

And to go on a limb here, five ACC teams in
the top Tier and heading to the eight team ACC Tourney (in years past known as the nine-team Maryland Invitational) with regional hosts up for grabs for the NCAA Tourney!

1. Miami (a regional host)
2. Tar Heels (no field for a regional host)
3. Fla State (a regional host)
23. NC State (a contender)
25. Ga Tech (a contender)

Tar Heels will host on their 2008 home field, the USA Baseball Complex Stadium. Had about 4,000 per game for the FSU series.

Are you sure? Or did you mean to write
Tar Heels "WANT" to host a 2008 NCAA Regional, and if so, would be located at USA Baseball Complex!

Last checked, the berths for the host will be
named this weekend.

Or do you say Ant vs Aunt?

Oh for Pete's sake, they're the top team in the country! You don't think they'll get to host?

Maybe you're like the old saw about the weatherman who every year predicted snow in July. If it ever happens, you can claim to be a genius.

Instead, you just look like someone who enjoys picking a fight.

Why in the world would the top ranked team in the country expect to host a regional? Bear I have no idea.
