Can anyone proveide me with some information about this Southern Collegete Baseball Leagaue team? Is Asheville a nice place to spend one's summer (assumming you are of college age)? I understand this is a fairly new program in a league that is quickly gaining recognition. Any info would really help. Thanks.

The competition level in the SCBL was surprisingly good for a young conference.

As for Asheville .... you couldn't ask for a better city to spend the summer in. It's wonderful. It's a decent size, has a laid-back atmosphere, surrounded by the mountains, relatively cool (as compared to the coastal regions).

Go for it ... you'll have fun there.

HiHardHeat...What about the team in Salisbury, NC? Is Salisbury a good place to spend the summer?

Obviously, compared to Asheville, Salisbury is not as big of a town but it is very close to both Greensboro and Charlotte, so there are a lot of options in the region.

It's right on I-85 so the travel times are easy. It's a large town (or maybe a small city) so there is enough to meet your immediate needs in the area and plenty around you.

Salisbury is in the Piedmont, but it's out of the foothills. It's good baseball weather during the summer. Mostly dry and very warm. Stays in the 80's-90's for most of the summer.

You have some hot days, but they are generally late in the summer.... Since you're from Georgia, It will be similar, temp-wise to the area around Dalton, Ga... Nothing you aren't used to.

My understanding is that this team charges players to play. Is that usual for this league? What do most of the teams charge, if this is the case?

My son played briefly for the Redbirds last summer. He loved it! Was a bit laid back for some I have heard, but is a new and growing league that will only get better and better. It is NCAA sanctioned as of this year too.

Connor will be playing for the Redbirds this summer. I am looking forward to traveling to the mountains to watch him play. I have heard that the quality of play is pretty good and is getting better. You can't beat the scenery, Asheville is beautiful.

My oldest just signed his contract with the Redbirds. So if anyone hears news about housing, etc., please give me a shout (I'll do the same).
